Port Victor's Maiden Voyage
Arrival At Lyttelton Next Month The motoi’-shi'p Port Victor, at present on the Australian coast, is to continue her maiden voyage for the Port Line from London to New Zealand, and is expected to arrive at Lyttelton on January 5, states the Wellington office of the company. The Port Victor was bought by the Admiralty for war service before she had been launched from the Clvdebank vards of John Brown and Co., Ltd., in 1943. Completing her trials on September. 16 last, after being reconverted from an aircraft carrier to a cargo liner, she was renamed Port Victor because of her war service. Members of the London head office staff of the Port Line were aboard lor her trials arm when she made a return trip from London to Antwerp to load lor Australia.
Formerly 11.M.5. Nairana. the Port Victor served mainly as a convoy escort. She has a registered tonnage of 10,205 ions, twin screws, has a cruiser stern, is an oil burner, is registered in London, and ton her maiden voyage is commanded by Captain E. T. N. La wry. She is expected to come to New Zealand in ballast to load, and may carry some passengers, there being accommodation for 12.
