EXPLOSION ON LAUNCH

TWO PERSONS SERIOUSLY BURNED (P.A.) Christchurch, Dec. 18. Two persons were seriously burned fn an explosion aboard the cruising launch Arab at Lyttelton last evening. They were Merle Cunningham, aged 18, of Jerrold Street Addington, and Mr Noel Hughes, aged 21, of Norwich Street, Linwood. Both were admitted to the Burwood Hospital. The explosion is believed to have been caused by a leakage into the bilges of gas from a cooking stpve. Some damage was caused to the launch. A fire which broke out was extinguished by the owner, Mr M. Cunningham, the father of one of the injured.
