In Washington today, the House of Representatives has been voting- on an amendment to cut President Truman's Military Aid Bill to Western Europe by half. A second vcte which followed was demanded from the floor of the House, and this also resulted in a majority in favour of the cut on the amendment is to be made later by a roll call.

Besides cutting the allocation to Western Europe in half, the amendment proposes that military he]p should be,given only until next June and not until June, 1951, as planned by the Government. It says that after next June further help should be given only if recipient countries prove their willingness to co-operate in mutual defence.

The amendment was tabled by a democrat from South Carolina, and had Republican support. The Bill as drafted by the American Government would allocate the sum of over 1,160,000,000 dollars over £290,000,000 for the supply of arms to Western Europe until June, 1951.
