MINOR TORNADO AT NELSON
MO SERIOUS .DAMAGE CAUSED PATH CUT THIRTY FEET WIDE. (P.A.) Nelson, Aug. 17. No one was injured, but some damage was done lo buildings when a toriiddjol minor intensity passed across the eastern part of Nelson at 10.5 o'clcck this morning. Several breaks were caused in power lines, end the supply, was off in parts of the town during he morning. A house at Lne corner of Manuka and Tasman Streets, owned by Mr W. T. Simpson, had about a third of the root blown off and the chimney knocked down. Several commercial glasshouses lost a number of sheets of glass, but the damage was not serious. The most spectacular part of the storm was seen when it travelled along a row of fowlhouses and sheds behind dwellings in Miiton Street. Here residents saw wood, fowls and glass flying through the air. A number of windows were blown out, wireless, poles torn down and a large tree in the Government Buildings grounds uprooted. The (rack of the tornado was about 30ft wide, and it passed a given point in a few seconds.
