Body Of Maori Recovered

Browning Fatality In Tauranga

The body of a man, later identified as that of Turin Rikihana, also known as Mick Dickson, was recovered from the entrance to Tauranga harbour near Mount Maunganui at about 9 a.m. yesterday. Rikihana was one of a party of four Maoris who were drowned when a dinghy, in which they were travelling with other Maoris from Tauranga to Matapihi on the evening of Friday, April 29 last, capsized. The other three bodies were recovered from the Tauranga harbour within a week of the fatality The body was first seen by Mr N. Lake, a fisherman, of Mount Maunganui, when leaving the harbour for the fishing grounds yesterday. He immediately notified Constable H. Hodge, of Mount Maunganui, who recovered the body, which was taken to Tauranga. It was later identified by Howard Whareaitu, as that of Turin Rikihana.

An inquest was opened before the Coroner, Mr E. S. Hylton, in Tauranga yesterday. After hearing evidence of identification, the inquest was adjourned sine die.
