Rugby Competitions. For Pile Cup And Mcintosh Shield
Teams From Tauranga To
Be Nominated
Next Burt Shield Game
Against Galatea
The fact that as other sub-unions in the Bay of,Plenty had completed *the season's competitions, the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union had decided to proceed with the elimination competitions for the Pile Cup and Mcintosh Shield, as soon as possible, was pointed out to the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Tauranga Rugby SubUnion by the chairman, Mr G. H. Fisher.
The Pile Cup and the Mcintosh Shield are competed, for annually in a competition between the champion senior and junior teams resoectively from each sub-union in the Bay of Plenty. As the Tauranga sub-union had not yet olecided its competitions, it was suggested that two teams, one from each grade, should be nominated to compete for these trophies. Because of the equal position in the senior competition of Te Puna, Rangataua and Matakana, and Rangataua and High School Old Boys in the junior grade, it was decided to approach these clubs with a view to ascertaining their willingness to compete.
It had also been decided at a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union that Tauranga's next game for the Burt Memorial Shield to be played against Galatea would either take place at Matata or Galatea, Mr Fisher pointed cut. He thought that it would be better in the interests of Tauranga if the game was played at Matata as this would save considerable travelling by the Tauranga team.
A request for a game with its senior representatives on August 27 from the Te Puke sub-union was declined owing to the full programme of proposed representative matches. The representative fixtures yet to be played were commented on by members and some doubt as to whether the union would be able to complete all its competitions was expressed. It was finally decided, on the suggestion of the secretary, that the Match Committee should draw up a programme for the remainder of the season. This would show, as far as was possible, the fixtures, both club and representative for the remainder of the season.
