Fog Blanket Over Auckland
Ships, Planes And Ferries Delayed
(P.A.) Auckland, April 22. Ships and aircraft were delayed, Jerry timetables upset and hundreds late for work due to thick log this morning. It varied in intensity, being particularly thick over the harbour, part of the North Shore and Henderson.
The Tasman Airways flying-boat scheduled to leave for Australia at .'! a.m. was delayed until 9.25. when (he lust fog cleared from the harbour. The Australia Star, originally sailing for London at 7 a.m., did not get away until 0 30. II was impossible to see ships in the harbour from Mount Victoria until after 8.30. It was nearly 9.15 when the allclear was given.
From 5 a.m. fop settled along the main North Road. Visibility in places was only a few yards. Fog stretched as far as Whenuapai, ah hough the aerodrome was clear, ;md the Skymaster aircraft from Sydney arrived on schedule. 'The North Shore was severely
'■' v ecte r ' and traffic moved slowly along the roads, using i'oglights and headlights. The bell at the end of the vehicular ferrv wharf tolled from 5 a.m., warning nearby ships. Ferry services- to the North Shore were maintained, but it was impossible to keep to the timetable. Hundreds of North Shore residents were late fcr work.
