BUTTER SENT BY SEA
KAITAIA TO AUCKLAND SHIPMENT
NORTHERN COMPANIES AND HOLD-UP
(P.A.) Whangarei. March 15. The Kaitaia Dairy Company has consigned 4000 boxes of butter to Auckland in the m.v. Tiri in the hope that the present industrial position will improve before the vessel reaches Auckland. The Railways Department at Whangarei has offered the Whangarei and Maungatapere dairy companies the use of insulated wagons in which to store butter because the cool storage accommodation at both factories is completely filled. Auckland railwayman refuse to handle butter which normally would be shipped by sea. The insulated wagons hold from eight to 10 tons and the Whangarei company could fill two daily. .At least six Northland companies are affected by the hold-up. The Whangarei town wharf goods shed, where some of the butter is stored, is seriously congested.
