FIFTY YEARS’ AGO

The following items of interest are taken from the Bay cf Plenty Times of 50 years ago;— Yesterday morning, Mr W. C. Berridge. contractor for replacing the small bridge on the Te Puke road known as Hammonds, set sail from town with a raft of timber in tow. Work wid. be commenced next week and the road will have to be closed shortly for two or three days, of which notice will be duly advertised. * * * The mail via Rotorua arrived in good time yesterday afternoon in spite of the downpour of rain which Mr Musgrave, the mail contractor, says was the heaviest he has ever encountered on the road. We arc informed that there k every prospect of a dominating interest in one of the Te Puke mines being taken over by a powerful combination, in which case, rapid developments are likely to take place.
