GREYMOUTH COAL MINE IDLE

DISPUTE OVER CLAIM FOR TRUCKING ALLOWANCE

(P.A.) Creymouth. Jan. 21. The Strongman State coal mine lost its fourth working day in ten for the year today when a dispute developed over a claim by two miners for a trucking allowance. The management considered the claim unreasonable, but the union supported the men, who decided not to work until a satisfactory settlement was reached.

Negotiations between the union and the management opened this afternoon. The secretary of the union, Mr J. Guy, said he did not anticipate that the mine would be idle long. A mass meeting of members of the Runanga union, embracing the Strongman and Liverpool mines, has been called for Sunday morning.
