INCREASE IN HOTEL TARIFFS
NOT AUTHORISED BY PRICE TRIBUNAL
TRADE APPLICATION DUE FOR HEARING
(p.A.) Wellington, Dec. 23. Complaints have been received ■Tom the public and associations interested in travel regarding inreases made recently in certain totel tariffs by way of extras. The president of the Price Tribunal, Mr Justice Hunter, in a statement issued today said that no increases had oeen authorised by the Price Tribunal and the increases demanded constitute a breach of the Control of Prices Act, 1947. If the necessary evidence was forthcoming the appropriate enforcement action would be taken by the Price Control Division, said His Honor. Referring to the general application from the hotel trade for increased tariffs. Mr Justice Hunter said this is scheduled for a public hearing by the tribunal as soon as the necessary information and accounts had been received by the Price Control Division. This information was requested, by the division from the hotels concerned a considerable time ago, but has* not yet been submitted by many hotels. The delay, therefore, is due to the non-co-operation of the trade itself and not to the Price Control Division, or the Price Tribunal who are anxious to complete the matter as soon as possible.
