MATA-ATUA ARRIVES IN AUCKLAND
TAUKANGA CONTESTANT FOR
OCEAN RACE YACHT REPORTS UNEVENTFUL PASSAGE The yaehl Mata-atua. only Tauranga contestant in the Ocean Yacht Race, tied up in Auckland this morning after spending the night at anchor off Waiheke Island. Since leaving for Auckland on Monday evening, she has been in radio contact with Tauranga and has given information on her progress. A good breeze was encountered off Mavor Island and the craft made good ‘progress sailing rail-under. On Tuesday evening, it was decided not to put in at Slipper Island as previously planned because of a strong wind and the night was spent at Mercury Cove. A start was made early on Wednesday morning and after calling at Port Charles almost at the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula, the yacht rounded Cape Colville, and made Waiheki Island before dusk.
