UNLIKELY TO COME TO TAURANGA

Efforts are being made bv the Kawhia Chamber of Commerce to get Mr G. E. R. Deacon, F.R.S., one of Britain's leading oceanographers, to visit the harbour there early next year, when he is expected to arrive in New Zealand' for discussions on ocean research. It is doubtful that he will visit Tauranga. Mr Deacon, who is head of the Admiralty Research Station at Tedclington, is exnected to bring to the Dominion with him some of the most, modern equipment in the world for recording dr ; ft. According to reports, he will use the equinment to investigate drift problems in New Zealand harbours, particularly at Greymouth and Westport. A representative of the Tauranga Harbour Board said that s<~< far no. ndvice had been revived that Mr Deacon proposed visiting but drift problems did not exist in in the Taurangi harbour. TTrr">fore he did not think that he would come to this centre.
