SEA CADETS FOR CANADA

EMPIRE CAMP TO BE HELD NEXT YEAR

INVITATION FOR 25 NEW ZEALANDERS

(P.A.) Auckland, July 9. An invitation from the Navy League of Canada for a party of 25 New Zealand sea cadets to attend an Empire camp in Canada in July and August of next year is being considered by the New Zealand Navy League. In announcing this yesterday the commanding officer of the Auckland division of the Navy League Sea Cadet Corps, Lieutenant T. K. M. Markwick, said the trip would be dependant on shipping and finance.

In the past, the annual Empire camns had been held alternately in England and Canada. The strength of the Canadian Sea Cadet Corps was more than 10,000. Following the suggestion of a former Chief, of the New Zealand Naval Staff, Commodore Sir Atwell Lake, C. 8., 0.8. E., R.N., it had been hoped to send a par tv of New Zealand cadets to England to loin H.M.S. Vanguard for the Royal visit to the Dominion, said Lieutenant Markwick. The Admiralty had stated, however, that because of lack of accommodation it was not possible to embark any cadets for the Australian and New Zealand tour. Every opnortunity would be given sea cadets to inspect the 'shin while she was in New Zealand waters.
