VITAL STATISTICS FOR TAURANGA
DECLINE IN SIX-MONTHLY PERIOD Fewer births, deaths and marriages for the first six months of this year compared with the corresponding period in 1947, are revealed by the half-yearly vital statistics for Tauranga. According to the records of the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Mr J. H. Dashwood) 177 births were notified for the six months ended on June 30, as against 190 for the half-yearly period in 1947. Deaths have shown a similar decrease. Although 62 deaths were registered from January 1 until June 30 in 1947. only 42 have been registered for the six months just ended.
Marriages for the two half-yearly periods are practically on a par. Sixty-one licences were issued up to June 30 last, while 66 were issued in the same period last year. June was a busy month for the stork. He delivered 43 babies, this total being much higher than the 28 in June, 1947.
There were 15 deaths registered in Tauranga last month, this figure also being an increase on the total of eight for the corresponding period in 1947. Marriage licences issued in Juno, 1948 and Juno, 1947. wore the same, the number in each instance being 14,
