AUTUMN BRIDE

BOYCE—McCLYMONT WEDDING • (Times Correspondent) The Pi’esbyterian Church, Mount Maunganui, was the scene of a very pretty wedding last week, when the marriage was solemnised between Merle Jun'e McClymont, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. McClymont of Leinster Avenue, Mount Maunganui, and James , David, eldest son of Mr and Mrs R. Boyce of May Street, Mount Maunganui. The Rev. P. J. Wainwright officiated and Miss Edith Pearce was the organist. ‘ I

The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a gi:aceiul gown of white spotted net, with a tight fitting bodice having a heart-shaped neckline and buttons down the back to the waist. She had full, threequarter length sleeves, and a tiered skirt of ground length. Her full length, heavily embroidered veil, was held in place by a spray of white chrysanthemums, which matched her bouquet. The bridesmaid, Miss Betty McClymont, sister of the bride, wore a frock of white marquisette nylon, with a round neckline, the bodice being pointed both back and front, to a full skirt. She wore blue mittens and hair-spray, and carried a bouquet of blue and pink chrysanthemums. The bride’s youngest sister, Patricia, who acted as flower-girl, was dressed in pink, her frock being cut on similar lines to that the bridesmaid. She carried a bouquet of pink chrysanthemums and carnations. The best man was Mr ’Hector Lennok. At the reception, held in the Joybell Tearooms, the tables were attractively decorated in pink, blue and white. The guests were received by Mrs McClymont, who wore a frock of blue wool georgette, with burgundy velvet trimmings and hat to tone. She was assisted by Mrs Boyce, who was dressed in a two piece suit of dusky-pink wool georgette with blue accessories.

Included in the forty guests who attended the reception were: Mrs McClymont senr., Miss M. McClymont and Miss E. Arnold of Taupo; Mir and Mrs R. Boyce senr. of Palmerston North; Mr A. Loveridge and Mr and Mrs E. Loveridge of New Plymouth; friends from Rotorua. For her going-away frock, the bride chose a cinnamon-brown twopiece suit with accessories to tone. She wore a tulle and feather toque. Mr and Mrs J. Boyce will make their future home at Mount Maunganui. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN NOMINATIONS FOR UNESCO COMMISSION ' ' PRICE OF BABY CLOTHES DISCUSSED At the monthly meeting of the National Council of Women, presided over by Mrs R. McNaughton, the claims of the United Nations Appeal for Children were emphasised, and members undertook to interest their organisations in carrying out the work possibly involved. The opinion of the council’s honorary legal adviser on a remit sent from headquarters to all branches on the question of trials for the crime of abortion, was read and it was agreed that the remit be sent forward. Correspondence in connection with the appointment cf persons as candidates for scats on the New T Zealand Unqsco Commission whs received from Misses Joan Rattray and Elsie Andrews, both of whom had accepted nomination by the Tauranga branch. An invitation to the executive members from the Lyceum Club, to meet. Lady BadenPowell, was accepted. The president read part of a report prepared and sent out by the Dominion Council of Uno (New Zealand) dealing with the question of the principle of equal pay for equal work, for men and, women workers. A remit from the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, regarding the short supply and high prices of baby clothes was discussed, and a question is to be sent to headquarters on this matter. Another question to be, asked, is in regard to the impossibility of obtaining wholemeal, which has been unobtainable for several weeks. As the annual meeting would be held next month, it was decided to remind all organisations of the necessity of appointing their gates to the council for the coming* twelve months.

WOMEN'S DIVISION FONGAKAWA VALLEY ANNUAL MEETING . The Pongakawa Valley branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers held its April meeting last week at Mrs H. Crow’s residence. It was decided to obtain a set of lectures' from the Adult Education Centre in Auckland. Mrs Barrett agreed to instruct members at the next meeting in tatting. Competitions resulted; Article from loz. of wool, Mrs Barrett 1, Mrs Loare 2; one egg sponge, Mrs Halcrow 1, Mrs Loare 2; loest bloom, Mrs Guest 1, Mrs Halcrow 2; best vegetable, Mrs Loare 1, Mrs Rogers 2. At the annual meeting which preceded the monthly meeting the following officers were elected: President, Mrs Barrett; vice-president, Mrs Loare; secretary, Mrs Guest; committee, Mesdames Young, Hansen, Halcrow and Rogers. . The points prizes were presented by the retiring president, Mrs Young, to Mrs Dodds, Mrs Loare, Mrs Barrett and Mrs Guest. Afternoon tea was seiwed by Mrs and Miss Halcrow. PERSONAL Mr and Mrs C. Hamilton, of Oropi, arc spending a fortnight at the Matamata springs. # $ sjc Mr Herbert Hodge has returned to Oropi from an extended tour of the South Island. Miss Douglas, who has been staying with friends in Wellington, Christchurch, and Westland, has returned to Tauranga.
