(P.A.) Wellington, April 28. New Zealand Army personnel in Japan will be withdrawn between July and September. It is not the intention of the Government to replace the Army component of the force in Japan. This was announced by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, in an interview tonight when the cabled report of the proposed reduction of the Australian strength- of the 8.C.0.F. was referred to him. The Government’s decision will mean the return to New Zealand of the 2,400 men who form the present Army component. It is understood that the withdrawal does not affect No. 14 Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, which totals about 200 men. This squadron will remain in Japan in the hieantime.
