The possibility of civil war throughout southern India, unless the present tense situation between Hyderabad State and. the Indian Union is carefully handled, is predicted from India. Fear of extermination cf the 2.000,000 Moslems in Hyderabad, if the State agrees to union with India, is the main reason behind its refusal to join 'the new Dominion. Strong pressure from the Congress of Socialist, parties is being resisted. Practically the whole of the Moslem population is determined to resist accession iat any cost. The Prime Minister of Mir Laik AH, said todav: "Wo will go to wfr miner than accede." Kasim Hashed. leader of the Razaknrs, sfud: "We have no illusions about ouf military position, but we will, fieht to the bst man. Last November the Nizam of. Hyderabad signed a "standstill" agreement with Tndii, under which both Governments agreed that no decision would be made for n year on wh°the r would join the Indian- Union or Pakistan or remain independen t.
