WELLINGTON BOYS ARE BUSY

PREPARATIONS FOR SOAP-BOX DEES'? . TRIALS TO BEGIN NEXT MONTH In homes, sheds, basements and also in equipped workshops, Wellington boys are busy at present on the construction of trolleys for the Trolley Derby trials which will begin in May. Those who have examined some of the completed machines are full of praise for the workmanship shown by most of the boys. The ordinary typo of trolley, which scares a few years off the lives of adults on pavements and roadways, will not suffice for the derby, for which super-streamlined racing machines are being produced. They have brakes and steering wheels and a special derby wheel has been produced and is being supplied to entrants. Before they are permitted to take nnrt in the derby, each machine will be subiected to a close inspection by a skilled mechanic and worker in woodwork. He will adhere to the high standard of machine that is demanded by the rules, and no machine that is not entirely safe will be permitted to compete. ■ In addition, the machines will not, following the derby, be let loose on Wellington’s streets. They will be stored in the Derby Park and will be available to the owners only on Saturdays for trial and practice runs.
