PLAYING FIELDS FOR WINTER SPORT
IMMEDIATE ACTION DESIRABLE Needs' Of Hockey And Rugby Conference To Be Called The opinion that the question of providing playing fields in Tauranga for winter sport was getting to be rather desperate, was voiced by Cr T. F. Connor at a special meeting of the Tauranga Borough Council this week. He added that it was really desirable that# a meeting should be held with the sports bodies concerned in an effort to v find a solution to the problem.
Cr Connor, said he was not too hopeful that the Jordan Park area would be suitable for use as a playing field in the coming season. There was a definite need for action as soon as was possible. The position was desperate—so desperate that the
question could not be delayed until the next meeting of the council. Following a suggestion by Cr Connor that some arrangement should be made or a committee ap*pointed to decide the issue of playing grounds, the council decided, that he should be authorised to call the two bodies concerned—Rugby and hockey—together to make the best arrangements possible. Cr Connor felt that there should be a committee to make an apportionment of the grounds available. He suggested that the Hockey Association should be allowed an area on Saturday mornings and the Rugby Sub-Union the grounds in the afternoon.
The motion authorising Cr Connor to call a conference was moved by Mr W. A. Carswell, and seconded by Cr L. D. Lees.
