MEMORIAL TO MAORI SOLDIERS

COMMUNITY BUILDING FAVOURED (PA) Whangarei, April 6. As a memorial to Maori soldiers from the Mangakahia district who lost their lives in the Second World War a meeting house has been erected at Pakotai. It -was officially opened yesterday by Mr Ivor Prichard, Judge of the Maori Land Court. Over 300 visiting Maoris attended the ceremony. Fourteen local organisations were represented at a meeting in Hikunmd which discussed proposals for a" local war memorial. It was decided that, subject to Government -pprova], the memorial be a comnitv budding to house the public library and provide for rest rooms and a Pfunitec room.
