EARLY MORNING FIRE IN ROTORUA
TWO SHOPS DESTROYED IN BUSINESS AREA (P.A.) Rotorua, April 4. The worst fire in Rotorua for several years destroyed a wooden singie-storey building in the business area early yesterday morning. The premises, which comprised the billiards saloon and tobacconist’s shop of Mr E. Fowkes and the hairdressing shop of Mr C. Tattersali, were owned by Mr S. Hale. The building was insured but the property cf the two tenants was not. First noticed by a milkman shortly after 5 a.m. the fire had a strong hold when the brigade arrived. Efforts to save the contents were fruitless and the whole building was burned from end to end. A large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco, three billiards tables and hairdressing equipment were lost.
