WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION
GENERALISSIMO CHIANG KAI-SHEK MAY BE CANDIDATE FOR PREMIERSHIP London, April 4. Generalissimo Chiang; Kai-Shek has announced that he will not stand again as a candidate for the Presidency of China. It was expected in Nanking that the new Chinese National Assembly would return him unopposed, but he himself now suggests that a non-party man should be president.
Following the announcement, there were immediate reports from the Chinese capital that he would instead seek the Premiership. _ K was pointed out that the Prime Minister, under the new constitution, is in many respects more important than the President. In some quarters people were saying that he would retire for the time being and rest. Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek is now in his 60th year, and has been President of China since 1943.
