FIFTY YEARS’ AGO

—— The following items of interest are taken from the Bay of Plenty Times of 50 years ago:— The Manager of the Te Puke Gold Reefs is employed in clearing out Palmer’s drive, which is several hundred feet below the workings on the No. 1 reef, in order to undercut the No.:i or White, and the No. 2 or Blue reefs at depth, this being considered the most important work that can' be done at present, until the formation of -the Company, for if those reefs prove to occur at depth, it will add immensely to the value of the Te Puke Gold Reefs property. The races at Katikati next Thursday should be a great success, there being eighteen nominations for the Cup. " No less than three marriages took place yesterday, two at the English Church and one at the Wesleyan, a somewhat unusual occurrence in Tauranga.
