ENCOURAGEMENT TO TOURISTS
CONTRIBUTION TO BRITAIN'S EFFORTS
STATEMENT BY BOARD OF TRADE. PRESIDENT
London, Jan. 16
The President of the Board of Trade, Mr Harold Wilson, today told •British hotelkeepers that by attracting tourists from overseas they could make a big contribution to Britain's efforts to earn dollars and other hard currency. The Government did not feel it was being foolhardy in encouraging visitors, even at the present time, because there were thousands of people who wanted to see how Britain was facing her problems. He referred to two types of tourists which had to be contended with. Those who went home determined to discourage others from coming to Britain, and those who stayed in luxury hotels and saw nothing of what he called "the housewife's shilling a week ration."
