ONE MAN CONTROL ADVOCATED
MARSHALL PLAN'S APPLICATION
Speeding Up Hearing
Of Evidence
American Action Must
Be Complete
London, Jan. 12
Today the United States House of Representatives continued hearing evidence on the European recovery programme. A Washington correspondent points out that provision has been made for Slate Department and Cabinet officials to give duplicate testimony before the House of Representatives committee and the Lower House,
Thus, while the United States Ambassador to Britain, Mr Lewis Douglas, was still answering questions to the Senate Committee, the Secretary of State, Mr G. C. Marshall, was giving his views on the recovery programme to the House of Representatives. Mr Marshall stated that American action must be complete to be effective.
In his evidence to the Upper House last week, Mr Marshall declared that he had an open mind both on the specific machinery and in the working of the legislation, but he believed that authority fpr administration should be vested in a single individual and not in a commission.
Speaking in the Upper House today, Mr Douglas stated that prospects for the coal industry in Britain were bright.
