REVISED TRAINING FACILITIES
* PERMANENT R.N.V.R. OFFICERS DOMINION RESERVES BEING RECONSTITUTED Numbers of pre-war' permanent R.N.V.R. officers, now resident, in the Dominions and Colonies, are to be granted facilities for naval training while on leave in the United Kingdom. Announcing this, an Admiralty Fleet Order states that previously R.N.V.R. officers were required to resign their commissions if 'they intended to reside abroad for more than "a year. Temporary officers of the Naval Reserves residing permanently in the Empire cannot be granted per■manent R.N.V.R. commissions, but they can apply for enrolment in local Naval Reserves, where they ■exist.
Dominions and Colonies are reconstituting their Reserves and will welcome applications from R.N.V.R. officers although it may not, in all cases, be possible to enrol them owing to limited establishments.' Temporary officers who cannot be enrolled locally, or who are residing outside the British Empire, and permanent officers who are unable or unwilling to undertake training in the United Kingdom, may apply for membership of the R.N.V.S.R., which has no training obligations. Another Fleet. Order announces that it has been decided to raise the age limits for candidates competing for Naval Cadetships (Special Entry) in the Executive, Engineering and Supply and Secretariat Branches, by 4 months to a 17 years 4 months minimum and an 18 years 4 months maximum.
This change will come into operation with the examination to be held in September, 1947.
