TRANSFER OF PLAYERS
MOTION TO DELETE RULE LOST SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING HELD Representatives from the Cadet, Te Puna, Rangataua, Old Boys, and Matakana football clubs were present at a special general meeting held on Monday evening before the usual weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Tauranga Rugby Sub-Union, in order to decide whether the riile stating that ho transfer of players from clubs could be made after July 1 in any playing season, should be deleted. After a protracted discussion, a motion that the rule be deleted, was lost. Speaking for the motion, Mr H. Read said that while some clubs had a surplus, others had a shortage of players, and it was the Management Committee’s duty to provide games for them. Mr G. Fisher said that if the rule was abolished, clubs could begin with a surplus of players, sort out the best of them, and then let the remainder slide. “Clubs would not be fostering players under those circumstances,” he added. Mr A. S. Chile, the secretary of the Management Committee, said that the . rule should not be deleted as there should be some date after which there is a control over the transfer of players. Mr •F. Willoughby, representing l the Cadet, club, said that it should be permissible for players to be transferred after the given date, as long as they did not change again during the next playing season, but that if no amendment could be made to the rule, it should not be deleted. Mr A. ,M. Nicholson said that it was possible an amendment could be made at the next general meeting of the Tauranga Rugby Sub-Union.
