WEDDING

SPENCER—CAWTE

(From our Correspondent.)

The wedding of Barbara MacGormick only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. B. H. Cawte, of Pongakawa, and Dr. Robert Russell Spencer, of Auckland, took place at St. John the Baptist Church, Te Puke on Saturday, December 14. The Rev. W. S. C. Stephens officiated. 'The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of ivory bridal georgette falling in graceful folds to the ground. Her long embroidered veil, held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms was an heirloom that had graced many happy brides. She carried a beautiful bouquet of cream roses and carnations.

The bridesmaid, Miss Evelyn Campbell, wore a pastel blue georgette gown with a most becoming coronet to match. She carried a bouquet of salmon pink gladioli. The bride was also attended by a flower girl arid page, the former being little Miss Beth Benner in a quaint dress of pink satin and the .latter, Master Noel Benner in a dark morning suit. Dr. M. Paewai, of Hokianga Hospital, a fellow student of Dr. Spencer’s was best man. Dr. Paewai is wellknown in Rugby football circles as a North and South Island representative and New Zealand Maori representative. After the ceremony the guests, numbering over 200, were entertained in the Pongakawa Hall. Dr. Kenneth MacCormick proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom and in his speech neatly introduced quotations from the poet Spencer appropriate to the occasion.

Later, many of the guests repaired to the Cawte homestead to view the presents and to give parting good wishes to the young couple. Mrs Spencer wore a tailored suit of pink cloque with black hat and accessories.
