TAURANGA PRIMARY SCHOOL

TAR-SEALING WORK COMPLETED Meeting Of Committee Held Accommodation For Teacher A report that the tar sealing of the grounds both in the infant department and the main school wasnow completed was received at a meeting of the Tauranga Primary School Committee on Wednesday evening. The total cost of this work, it was stated, was approximately £6BO of which the committee had to pay £IOO. This was due to the fact that it had decided on having a much larger area tar sealed than the Education Board agreed in order to enable a portion of the area to be used for a basket ball court. The committee was of the opinion that the public would give generously to any effort put forward to raise the necessary funds. This fact was evidenced by the splendid response to the children's ball recently held at the Town Hall, which realised over £9O. Both'the Home and School Association and the teaching staff were deserving of great praise for the work accomplished in this direction. A letter was received from Mr M. J. Eagles suggesting that the patrol system be adopted to control traffic when children were coming to and going from school. The committee decided to accept the offer to have some boys trained to do this work. The resignation of Mrs D. Nell was received with deep regret and the Home and School Association is to be approached to see. whether it desires to make any recommendations in regard to filling the vacancy. An endeavour, it was reported was being made to establish an art room at the school. Mr C. Brockway asked to be relieved of the position of liaison officer to the Home and School Association and Mr Spitz was appointed in his place. Mr C. Cameron brought forward the question of obtaining suitable accommodation for one of the teachers who was handicapped by having to travel 10 miles to and from the school. The committee agreed to do all in its power to secure accommodiation for the teacher.

It waa reported that the roll at the sdhool now totalled 769 and the school was maintaining its rise in grade.
