CHANGE IN DISTRICT

CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY Tauranga Sub-Centre Discussion Question Of Surgical Bootmaker Certain changes in district areas as proposed by the Auckland executive were discussed at length at the October meeting of the committee of the Tauranga sub-centre of the Crippled Children Society. It was finally agreed, that before any definite steps were taken, the Auckland provincial secretary (Mr Parkes) should be asked to visit Tauranga. There were present at the meeting the Revs. A. A. Bensiley (president), L. P. Bryan, Messrs McFarlane, Every, Briggs, M. J. Eagles (secretary), and Miss Lerew (welware officer).

A vacancy on the committee was filled, Mr H. Boyer being elected.

A letter from Mrs Skelton, resigning from the committee because of ill health, was discussed and it was decided to ask Mrs Skelton to accept leave of absence until March 31 instead of resigning. Amounts totalling £ 14 4s 8d were passed for payment and it was agreed to send on the amount of £470 18s now held in the trust account, to the Auckland centre. Correspondence was read from the Hawera Hospital Board and the Auckland branch of Disabled Servicemen’s Association, on the question of the surgical bootmaker and after a lengthy discussion it was decided to send copies of these letters to the various hospital boards and Crippled Children Society committees in the Bay of Plenty. Miss Lerew reported on 17 cases in the Tauranga district, some of whom she had arranged to take to Auckland for visits to specialists. Concern was expressed again at unwarranted delay in the granting of admission to hospital for children urgently needing operation and treatment. Equipment for craft work had been supplied; surgical boots had been fitted and 12 homes and schools had been visited.
