STUDYING "STELLAR RAIN"
RUSSIAN SCIENTISTS London, Oct, 7. Russian scientists will ascend to the stratosphere to study the "stellar rain" which is expected on October 9, says the British United Press correspondent in Moscow. The phenomenon will be caused by a swarm of meteor particles approaching the earth. Special stations for the study of the ionosphere will observe theeffect of the meteor shower on radio waves. The earth 'is expected en Wednesday to pass through a ' stream of meteoric debris in the wake of Comet Giacobini-Zinner. In 1933 as many as 400 meteors an hour were seen for a short time in Northern Europe, on the occasion of a close approach by the comet. This year an even greater display is expected, but it is not likely that many meteors will be seen in the southern hemisphere.
