TREES
Sir,—Just a little reply to "AntiJungle." I think it would be a good plan if he or she went to live in the feahara Desert, and then would not be obliged to look at Tauranga's lovely trees. At the rate trees are being cut dawn in New Zealand we will soon not have any left, and then what will happen? How anyone can wish a town to be rid of its lovely trees, such as those on the college boundary and in-other parts of the town I can't imagine. All I say is, thank God for the trees, and my sincere hope is that they will be allowed to live. Does "Anti-Jungle" know the words of two very lovely songs, "Trees" and "I Hear a Forest Praying"? If not, it would be a good thing for him to read them. — I am, etc., "A TREE LOVER." Sir,—l would like to put "AntiJungle" into a sandy desert with tons of cement and a trowel and let him suit himself, but heaven forbid that he should be let loose in Tauranga to wreak destruction on our lovely town. Compare the setting of the Hamilton High School with the nical School opposite or the Seddoii Technical College, Auckland. One must be frightfully dumb not to appreciate the difference. Does not "Anti-Jungle" like a little shade on cur glaring hot summer days? Does he not know th'e use of trees? Can he not see and hear, them? Men can build ugly structures but only God can make a tree. Before aspiring to civic honours the aspirant should be put to the test of seeing more than mud in a wayside puddle.—l am, etc.. "ANTI-BARREN." [Further Letters appear on page 4.]
