A NEW JET PLANE

DEVELOPMENT IN BPJTAIN

Experimental Machine

Built

Top Speed Cannot Be

Forecast Yet

London, May 30

A new De Havilaud jet aircraft has been developed in Britain. An official of the Air Ministry explained that it is not a tighter and is not to lie used for a world’s record attempt.

An air correspondent says it is clearly an experimental machine built to study the theory of set-hack wings which delay the shock-wave effect caused 1 by flying near the speed of sound.

The new aircraft, it is hoped, will secure practical proof of this theory and the lessons learned will piohahly then be applied ‘to a civil airliner. Already the plane has flown 21300 miles on test fliglvts. Later on experiments at speeds ah; ut GOO miles an hour may take place. The top speed of the machine cannot he forecast yet.
