COMMEMORATION OF ANZAC DAY
GATHERING HELD AT
KATIKATI
BIG PARADE OF RETURNED
SERVICEMEN
(From Our Correspondent)
For the first time for many years the Anzac Parade at Katikati was held in fine weather. There was, perhaps not quite as big an attendance at Henderson's Cinema Theatre for the commemorative service, as previously, but the parade of returned servicemen was the biggest ever held.
It is estimated that approximately 90 ex-servicemen took part in the pilgrimage to the memorial gates for the laying of .wreaths. The president of the R.S.A. (Mr Jack Richards) presided at the services in the theatre. Prayers were led by the Rev. A. R. Thomas and the scripture reading was given by Mr G. A. Sherson. The address on this occasion was given by a returned serviceman of both , wars, Lt.-Col. R. Sinel.
The Katikati Brass Band, under Mr Arthur Dick, led the proeession to the theatre and later to the memorial gates and also played the hymns at the service. The Last Post was sounded by Messrs A. Dick and N. D. Stewart, while Mr J. Duncan the procession.
