INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICIANS

TAURANGA BRANCH DELEGATE TO ANNUAL CONFERENCE At tjie monthly meeting of the Tauranga branch of the New Zealand Institute of Electricians Inc., Mr S. C. Couch was nominated to represent the branch at the forthcoming annual conference to be held during March in Wellington. For the delegate’s guidance numerous remits were discussed. 1 In presenting an interpretation of the Electricity Act, 1945, Mr J. R. Bongard emphasised the fact that one of the most salient points of the Act provided for the constitution of what is to be known as an Approvals Board to which all electrical appliances and materials for sale and use in New Zealand moist be submitted for examination and approval. By so doing it was to be hoped that the standard of manufacture of New Zealand-made electrical appliances would be.raised and that the safety factor would be considerably increased as many of the hazards which at present existed in the poorer quality articles were eliminated. • On the invitation of officials of-the Whakatane paper mills, it was arranged that two parties be made up to visit and inspect the mill and that a representative party visit Whakatane to meet members of the electrical trade to assist them in the formation of their own branch of the institute.
