This stated that the Yugoslav Constituent Assembly had abolished the monarchy, deprived King Deter and his family of the Royal rights and proclaimed the People's Federal Republic. The British Government said it recognised the change that has taken place in the Yugoslav constitution. The United States is also ready to establish diplomatic relations with the new regime. But the acting Secretary of State, Mr Acheson. said recognition should not he taken as approval of the policies of the present Yugoslav regime or of its failure to fulfil the guarantee of personal freedom promised to the people.
