SENT BACK TO REICH
DEPORTATION OP SEDETENLAND GERMANS
FIRM ATTITUDE OF CZECHS
London, Juiy«3l
Two million sullen and resentful but passive Germans are at present awaiting deportation to Germany from the rich industrial and agricultural territory in Sudeteuland, says Renters Prague correspondent. Apart from sporadic outrages by Werewolves, the deportation:: are going on quietly. About £45,000 Germans so far have left either as Voluntary fugitives or as forced deportees.
- Czechs are rapidly returning to resume their old jobs and lake over administration from the Gentians. They have the situation well in hand despite the sullen hos-i’.ity of a substantial majority of the population. most of whom are at present permitted to continue 'o work on farms and in factories and mines. The Czech authorities have already rounded up war criminals and cleared Sudentenland of German Nazi party members and inn-essential tvorkers but the bulk of the deportation of the Sudetens awaits both Die Big Three approval and the availability of large numbers of Czech workers to take the place of Germane. The Czech attitude toward the Germans is stern and determined. They are fully resolved to end once and for all the minority problem, adds the correspondent, but he has seen no evidence of harshness.
