A general meeting of the otumor0 tumor tai Ratepayers’ Association was held in the Otumoetai Schoolroom on Tuesday, July 24, over forty members being present. Also in attendance were the two riding member; and the County Engineer (Mr T. Moorhouse).
Before business was * proceeded with, the chairman (Mr N. Gibson! referred to the unfortunate loss the association had suffered by the death ol Mr W. G. Strange. Tributes were paid by several present and those present stood in silence as a mark of respect. The chairman gave a resume oi the work accomplished by the committee since the last meeting and then called upon Mr W. I. Rusk-,, ton. a councillor, to outline any proposals the council had in mind ■ f j 11: for the coming year. The mam: Question of the evening was the hit-, umenising of the remainder of the main road to the station. It, was suggested that, possibly, this road may be taken over by the Highways Beard in which case the hope was expressed that the hitumenisias would not long be delayed. Mr C. Kennedy, another councillor, Ms# spoke of council matters. The county engineer answered many questions. The chairman called on Mr B. Verry to ontline'his proposal for J bus service for Otumoetai. It agreed that Tuesdays and Fridays would lie the better days and it was left in the hands of the promoter to endeavour to make his arrangements accordingly.
