THIRTEEN WINS
TAUHANGA ATHLETES AT MATAMATA A GREAT PERFORMANCE Nine clubs competed at the Matamata Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's meeting on Easter Saturday and Tauranga entrants were on the marks in 24 events and secured 13 firsts, eight seconds and one third. Both in track and wheel events the many competitors put the Tauranga club on the map. Perhaps the greatest effort of the day in so far as the Tauranga club was, ( concerned was the great heart with which the High School boy J. Nicholl ran the 440 yards event to give D. M. Harris a new Zealand record. Nicholl, was beaten on the tape and the Auckland boy clocked 47 4-5. Coker, Griffin, Old and Higgins shone in the cycling and Snelling was outstanding in the sprint events. The detailed results of Tauranga’s wins were: 10 0 yards open, final, J. Snelling (8), 1. Time 10 sec. Boys’ half-mile, G. Policy 1. Time, 2.23 2-5.

Higgins (SO) 1. Time 2 13 4-5. One mile cycle, junior handicap, C. Old (190) 1, R. Griffin (170) 2. Two-mile Matamata wheel race, P. Coker (20) 1, time 4.51 4-5. Two-mile junior cycle, C. Old (320) 3. Eustace, New Zealand title holder of the 120 yards junior hurdles, took 4-ssec. off his existing time of 15 sec. Three watches clocked 14 1-5.
SeA r eral of the Avomen members of the club competed, Miss B. Roan winning her heats in the ladies' events, but just failing to get there in the finals. The Tauranga Club Avas first in the march past. The points prize cup for junior cyclists wen to R. Griffin, of the Tauranga Club.
