UNDER WATER
DUTCH PROVINCE OF FRIESLAND SAVAGE GERMAN MANHUNTS Melbourne, March 27. According to underground reports from the occupied part of Holland, three-quarters of the northern Dutch province of Friesland have now been inundated by the Germans. Friesland—called Holland’s food paradise—is the cradle of the famous Friesian qattie which/ until the Germans destroyed all stock, were still bred there on a .largo scale. Now this once green, fertile land is a grey watery waste. Friesland is, to a great extent, reclaimed from the sea and consists practically entirely of polders. The water now stands over four feet in these pold-
ers. The pumping stations "cannot work any longer for lack of fuel. The Germans take revenge on the
Friesians, whose resistance during the occupation has 'always been more bitter than perhaps anywhere else. Throughout the province, the Germans conduct thorough and savage manhunts against all men between 15 and 45. The capital city of Leeuwarden appears deserted.
