01HUMAN CIVILIANS FlUffT STRANGE FANATICISM MET Loudon, April, 1. Women and girls are fighting in hitter house-to-house battles against the United States Seventh Army in the Aschaffenburg and Schweinheim areas, north-east of Darmstadt, says agency correspondents. The Americans met fanatical resistance from more than 4000 Germans who put up a terrific fight in pillboxes and from strong-points consisting of steel and concrete pillboxes built between the houses. Women and girls sniped and hurled grenades at the Americans. Men and women civilians’ at one point in the Schweinheira area hid in well-chosen spots and fired on troops swarming across the river. Sixteen-year-old girls dropped grenades from the second floors of buildings as the Allied troops moved through the streets. A 15-year-old girl was shot while trying to fire a bazooka.
