CLOSING IN ON RIMINI

TRIUMPH FOR EIGHTH ARMY Coriano Ridge Is Captured Some Of Fiercest Fighting Of Italian Campaign London, Sept! 15. Eighth Army troops in Italy aro closing in on Rimini. They mopped up the Coriano Ridge yesterday, took Coriano village and crossed ihn river barrier in front of Rimini. Canadian tanks and infantry were last reported a mile from Rimini airfield. This Eighth Army triumph comes after some of the fiercest battles in the Italy campaign. At the San Savino end of the Coriano Ridge. United Kingdom infantry captured nearly an entire German infantry grenadier regiment. West of this position lies the tiny republic of San Marino. The Germans have made San Marino a battleground and so Allied airmen and guns are bombing and shelling enemy positions inside the republic. Italian patriots in the north are adding to the Germans’ troubles. In the mountains round Lake Maggioro they have forced German troops to withdraw across the lake for lack of reinforcements.
