G ERMAN STATEMENT London, Sept. 14. The Germans have admitted taking famous works of art from an old church at Bruges “in order to prevent them from being plundered by the British and Americans.” The treasures included" a- marble Madonna by Michelangelo, paintings by Van Dyck, and other works of equal worth. \ A letter to the Bishop of Bruges from a representative of the German High Command says a German party crossed the Scheldt in the dead of night and took the treasures just as Allied tanks were approaching.
