GOOD PROGRESS REVEALED
TAURANGA HIGHLAND PIPE BAND Annual Meeting Held Activities Reviewed By President The annual meeting of the Tauranga Highland Pipe Band was held in Hayman's Hall recently, when a good attendance of members was present. The president (Mr A. A. Fleming) was in the chair. •In presenting his annual report, the president made reference to the good progress the band had made under the direction of Fipe Major L. J. Johnson, who is carrying on the good work so ably founded by Mr J. H. Davidson. The report contained some interesting items of the band's activities, revealing that over 20 functions had been attended, including welcomes hofhe to soldiers, (three at Te Puke and two at Tauranga), patriotic engagements at Tauriko, Mount Maunganui. PukeHina, Ohauiti, Paengaroa, Gate Pa and Matata, dances at Otamarakau, a military ball at Tauranga, Te Aroha Scots Society, Katikati Red Cross, United Sports Club meeting at Omokoroa, St. John's Ambulance Church parade, and two parades on Anzac Day at Te Puke and Tauranga. He concluded by paying tribute to the members overseas, and those who had just returned, expressing the hope that the end of the war would be soon, when they could look forward to better times for the band. The financial position, as disclosed by the secretary, was satisfactory. The election of officers resulted: President. Mr A. A. Fleming; vicepresidents, Messrs. R. J. Clarkson and J. Graham; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr M. W. Sandlant; committee, Messrs. J. H. Davidson, R. Bruning, T. Riddington; pipe major, Mr L. G. Johnson; press correspondent, R. J. Clarkson. After the completion of the annual meeting, a social evening was held, and a number of visitors were welcomed, including the following: Capt. Whelan, Lieut. Dent, Staff Sgt. McLernon; Sgt. Price (members of the First Hauraki Regiment), Mr R. Graham, Mr S. Marshall and Mr "C. Bundle. During the evening, supper was served and items were given by Messrs. Dent, Grinder, Fleming, Johnson, Whelan. and Clarkson.
