HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING HELD
EFFORTS TO ENCOURAGE CHILDREN
The monthly meeting of the Taurauga District Horticultural and Beautifying Society was held in the Wesley Hall recently. There was a splendid attendance of . ■members, and in the absence of the president (Mr L. R. Wilkinson), Mr S. Ward presided.
The principal discussion centred round the last flower show. There were many suggestions of ways in which the next could be improved, and several recommendations will go forward to the general committee.
It was stressed that the children should be encouraged in every way to cultivate a love for gardens by competitions, by talks and gifts of seeds and plants for the school gardens. It was recognised that they were the future members of the society, and with that end in view they must receive all help possible. The secretary mentioned the difficulty of getting speakers. She asked all members who would be willing to give a talk on garden subjects to send in their names, and also the names of any person with special knowledge who might be willing to help in this direction. A short talk on points in garden planning, by Mrs Pitt Butts followed, and after several questions had been answered, the meeting was closed.
