APPOINTMENT MADE

ARCHBISHOP OP WESTMINSTER RT. REV. BERNARD GRIFFIN London, Dec. 22. A new Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster has been appointed in succession to the late Cardinal Hinsley. He is the Rt. Rev. Bernard Griffin. The new Archbishop was born in Birmingham and served in the Navy and Air Force during the last war. He then went to the English 'college in Rome, where he was ordained in 19 24. 'Orf his return to England he 4 became secretary to two successive Archbishops of Birmingham and in 1938 he was made a Bishop. Archbishop Griffin has been described as a born administrator, a brilliant scholar and an eloquent preacher. His twin brother is a member of the Benedictine Order.
