CHANGE OF POLICY
INTERNATIONA!. LABOUR OFFICE * ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL. PROBLEMS London, Dec. 1?. The governing body of the International Labour Office is at present meetings in London. One striking point which arises from the discussion is that economic and social problems are inseparable and that the 1.L.0. must no longer concern itself solely with labour questions but must study and attempt to formulate a financial basis for world good order. This is necessary if its ideal of full employment, minimum standards of living and social security are to be brought nearer. A special correspondent at the meeting said that the inclusion of economic matters represents something of a revolution iu the policy of the International Labour Office. As an indication of the new state of mind it is worth noting that Sir John Forbes- Watson, chairman of the employers’ group, admitted that although he had previously been opposed to including these matters, he had sinee changed his mind and now fully supported the resolution tabled by the workers’ group that the constitution of the 1.L.0. be amended to include economic questions.
