In the south they report fluctuating fighting in the Shlobin battle area and Red Army attacks up the Pripet River towards Mozir. The German communique ignored yesterday’s fighting in the Kiev bulge, where massed Russian artillery held the German attacks and the Red Army won back several villages. In the Dnieper bend the railway junction of Smela, lo miles from Cherkasy, is within, range of the Soviet guns, and Russian columns are closing in on the town from three directions. Farther south the tiennans are fighting desperately to save the highway centre of Kirovograd. They lost 46 tanks here yesterday. _
