CONFIRMING OF MINUTES OPPOSED
OBJECTION NOT RECORDED
Mr Baron’s Contention at Power Board Meeting Reference to Yes-Men Opposition to the confirmation of the minutes of the previous monthly meeting was voiced by Mr S. C. Baron at yesterday’s meeting of the Tauranga Electric Power Board. Mr H. G. Lever moved that the minutes be confirmed, the motion being seconded by Mr C. E. S. Gane. When the motion was about to be put Mr Baron said that he wished to object to the minutes as presented. In the first place he wished to object because two motions moved by him had not been recorded and secondly because the minutes did not record the objection made by him to the minutes of the previous meeting. “No doubt you will raise an objection to my objection,” declared Mr Baron. “I don’t hope to see any improvement so long as the board are prepared to be yes-men to the secretary’s wording of the minutes. For that reason I’ll have to object.” In reply to Mr Baron’s first objection the deputy-chairman (Mr H. J. Clarke) said that no motion had to be recorded unless it was put to the meeting. Mr Baron said he did not claim that the board was compelled to record the motions but it could if it were willing. In the past it had recorded all sorts of piffling things. It had even recorded its censure of him on one occasion. Those things paled into insignificance with the questions he had brought before the board. At this stage the deputy-chairman put the motion confirming the minutes, which was declared carried. Mr Baron demanded a division so, he said, that he could have his vote recorded against the motion. The motion was carried, Mr Baron dissenting.
